After completing orthodontic treatment, the teeth are properly aligned, but they are often still far from achieving proper function and the beautiful “Hollywood smile” effect. To make the final result of orthodontic therapy even better, several additional procedures should be considered (of course, if there are indications in a given case). Procedures worth performing:
- scaling and sandblasting (in our clinic performed using the Woodpecker device – a scaler and sandblaster in one),
- whitening (in-office method and at-home method),
- tooth reconstruction with composite or ceramic material.
After completing orthodontic treatment, any irregularities resulting from previous tooth wear, occlusal trauma, or external damage should be covered with a restorative material, i.e. composite or ceramic material. In the area of the teeth from canine to canine, we can even talk about changing the shape of the teeth, commonly known as bonding. Bonding is a procedure that can correct the shape and color of teeth, and eliminate diastemas, chips, cracks, or discoloration. Composite resin is used for this purpose. The procedure is not complicated or time-consuming. It is usually performed during one or two visits. Using a previously prepared special mold/splint, the dentist injects liquid composite and hardens it with a curing light. It is important that bonding is performed only on healthy teeth, unaffected by cavities or periodontal disease.
