We implement prosthetic treatment, when we have to reconstruct initial bite conditions after loosing of natural teeth, or their partial damage.
In order to perform the reconstruction, we apply fixed (veneers, crowns, bridges) and removable (other) dental prostheses. * Veneers – prosthetic filling in the form of ultrathin composite or ceramic layer, fixed on the facial surface of a particular tooth. Veneers are applied in order to improve the color and shape of teeth, as well as close the spaces between them (so called diastemata). The contraindications for fixing veneers are caries, periodontal diseases and malocclusions. They are not appropriate for Patients with such parafunctions as grinding, clenching of the teeth, nail biting, because this increases the risk of damage, or disbonding of veneers.
* Crowns – permanent prosthetic restoration reproducing the natural crown of the tooth. They may be made of different materials: porcelain, composite, metal, gold. The choice of the material reflects in aesthetics. Currently, zirconium supported crowns are considered to be the best. Their physical properties are comparable with the features of a natural tooth.
* Bridges – restorations designed to rebuild the missing tooth, or several teeth in the arc. They are anchored on such pillars as ground teeth or implants. There is a span between the pillars, composed of crowns reconstructing missing teeth.
* Skeletal partial denture – removable denture rebuilding partially missing teeth. Such dentures are used when performance of permanent prosthetic (bridge) is not possible. The base of this denture is metal plate cast in one piece. These dentures restore chewing function and correct, clear pronunciation. They protect the stomatognathic system from damage and distribute the forces of biting, what protects natural teeth from damage (for example overloading).
Skeletal dentures do not settle, because the strength chewing is transferred to the other teeth. Their advantages are minimal thickness, comfortable usage, excellent fit and retention, durability, and, what is more, there is no necessity to grind the teeth. Among the skeletal partial dentures, there are dentures with or without hooks and splint dentures for Patients with periodontitis.
*Partial or full denture – made of acrylic, fully or partially replacing teeth. However, this type is not really advantageous for the mucous and the alveolar. The forces exerted by chewing are transferred by means of denture plate into the whole alveolar ridge and alveolar mucosa, which it overlaps. In case of this type of dentures, the cooperation and attitude of Patient are crucial factors. Period of Patent’s adaptation to this acrylic dentures may be long.
